Vietnam is at it again! It was announced recently that Vietnam is considering banning access to such mobile phone apps as Viber, Whatsapp and Line, our favorite “free” apps for texting and making calls over the internet.
They are complaining about how such apps are taking away from government owned phone companies revenues such as Viettel.
I think that they are overlooking however, the benefits such apps bring to the company. It helps lower income people, which make up a majority of the Vietnamese society have greater access to communication. Businesses have the ability to lower costs therefore lowering prices.
Is innovation a bad thing? In a free market companies such as Viettel would be forced to cope with such issues and innovate. That what drives our economies to the next level, and moves us to greater efficiency.
